Rocky Creek Homestead

Добавлен 4 апр 2020
After battling Psoriasis for years, I discovered the power of quality food and its positive impact on my skin condition. This sparked my desire to raise my own quality food. So come along with our Family as we transition from urban living to small self sustaining family farm. Learn from both our successes and failures in hopes it may inspire others to try new things. We entered into this journey with no prior experience and hope to provide many laughs and learning experiences. We learned most of how to do what were doing from watching others and hope to be able to provide a similar learning opportunity to anyone else who may benefit from this. Thank you for coming along with us on this journey and we hope it is enjoyable for you and your family.

New subscriber. Looking forward to your channel and journey. God bless you all and many prayers 🙏🏻 Nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ and Eucharistic Minister 🙏🏻
Cornish Cross were selectively bred to grow fast and be butchered at about 6 weeks. I don't like the flavor as well, also when my folks raised them sometimes they would drop dead because the hearts are too small for the size of the bird, and often they would have bent bones that wouldn't support them to walk if my folks waited overly long to butcher. I like the dual purpose birds better for flavor and health of the bird, but I can understand why people get the Cornish Cross.
Great video. Got my first 2 piglets 64 years ago. Still enjoy my pigs. Great video. Thank you.
Thank you from India nice video
Now you also have to pay to throw it in the trash🤣🤣
How’d it work out?
Let the eggs in frig for 3-4weeks ,they need to be older ,eggs last a long time in frig.
Thanks so much!
I wonder if jalapeños would be good with this recipe?
Don't poor chemicals in the creek. That's called contamination.
I agree about hemp bedding. I’ve never tried it either because I know I’ll never spend that kind of money on betting. If you have a little flock and a little coop, it might work great but I’ve got 15 chickens and I can’t afford to use hemp bedding.
This is an excellent way of growing potatoes
When my Polish were little, I handled and talked to them every day, so as chicks, they never ran from me. They ran to me, especially if you have treats that are small enough for them to eat. The grey one may be a Blue White Crested Polish, but because of the different splashes of grey, it might be a Blue Splash White Crested Polish. Personally, I would round the tops of their roosts otherwise, they'd be a little rough on their feet. Good luck! Enjoy!
My birds jumped on them and they snapped off, only need one to do it and it empties the bucket
How many weeks are these babies? Can you tell at 3 weeks?
We raised and butchered 25 Cornish cross for the first time a few months back. We have another 25 on pasture currently and probably will be doing another 25 before winter. My husband and I were vegan for roughly 10 years, we always knew it was a temporary way of eating for us until we could raise and hunt our own meat. For us, the bottom line was quality control of what goes into the meat, quality of life for the animals and finally shouldering the responsibility of taking the lives of those creatures. It never felt right being disconnected from the reality of what it takes to have animal protein in my diet. I wanted to consume animal products but not enough to buy them on Styrofoam trays wrapped in plastic completely disconnected from any responsibility for those lives. Cost and effort aren't factored into my decision, The bottom line is, if I want to eat meat I'm doing all the dirty work.
Awesome job. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing
Do you ever clip the piglets "needle teeth" when they are young or at any point?
I personally haven’t. I know of some people who do.
So they are a slower growing breed... When can the breed and what size litters should we expect. I found someone who's getting out of them and can get feeders for $25. But would like to try to raise my own from them and don't know much about them.
They can be mature enough for pregnancy as early as 8 months, but with their slower growth 12-18 is more ideal. Litter sizes can vary with the first litter often times being the smallest the sow will have. Average is 6-8 but I had a litter as small as 4.
@@RockyCreekHomestead thanks for the reply. Guy bought a property with them on it and sold them off to get rid of them. I was 3hr away by the time I called (30 min after posting) he said he had a guy coming for the adults and didn't know if he wanted the little pigs... 2hrs later the post was removed. Wrong place and time but got the idea stuck in my head. I don't think I've ever heard of a hog being a good mother until I heard of kunekune. My knowledge is limited but Berkshires seemed to lose 1 or 2 a litter... Even with escape boards
It did nothing for me
finally direct and usefull info thanks
Glad it was helpful!
looks like a lifestyle where insomnia would absolutely destroy you
McMurray?
This was so helpful for our first batch of chicken processing. Yes you won’t get 100% of the meat but you get the best parts for your freezer (freezer space was an issue for us). We also made bone broth and I used diluted blood in our garden. So I would not agree this is reckless or majorly wasteful.
How old were these birds? Did you happen to weigh them? We like dark meat too! Maybe you mentioned, but I didn’t catch that.
I didn’t weigh these. They were around 16 weeks
If you use a needle or something sharp to poke a hole on the fat end of the egg, there will be no air bubble.
Great video ❤❤😊😊
Thank you 🤗
Takes me 5 min. To pluck a chicken. You need experience . And... everyone wants everything done fast today... like they have no time. Slow down and 3njoy life as it passes by so fast.
I listened to this guy that posted it 5years ago and says it has been working for him. His channel is Mathew’s Landscape
Plz brother tall me wich the best for bidding to my chicken
My friends grandma owns Piney Creek KuneKunes and I fell in love with them helping her handle them. Doing a deep dive and super contemplating getting some😂
They’re so great.
Great video but too much unnecessary chores interrupting what I came here for…. Gotta bail and move on 👎👎👎👎
Everyone has their preferences. Take care
this is wonderfull, our well is low and this uses 1/4 the water compared to the way i was doing it
Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching

I wonder if you can use fish pace 😂that are eaten in south east Asia 🌏 smells like magic bait used for fishing for catfish. 😮😅
I think about anything smelly would work 😂
Save money better meat you know where it came from unbeatable life lessons is better than buying chicken from the store any day
Agree 👍
It was very cool watching your video, very interesting the entire time. Sending prayers of continued success your way.
Thank you! You too!

Very nice video! Thank you very much. I saw your backyard layout and I said that's Phoenix for sure. We lived out in that area at one point now in Tucson.
Thank you. We’re far from pheonix 😂. We’re in VA
Love your homestead we are starting ours. About to get into meat birds.
Awesome. Wish you the best in your journey
Thanks!

Thanks for the video But if people pick up their dog shit from the yard and clean the garbage cans, we wouldn't have many flies but they don't,.and in my area there is many bow flies that kills onion plants.cheers.
Keeping things clean definitely help
Also those cups do work well for about a year but after that they usually need to be replaced. Those valves aren't meant to last long.
How can I get one of those hats?
